To integrate all Mexican Restaurants while promoting the vast diversity of Mexican Gastronomy and Culture.
MERA is a nonprofit organization formed with the purpose of giving Mexican restaurant owners established in the United States the leadership, tools and support they need to succeed. From the convergence created during the gastronomic seminars hosted by the IME (Institute for the Mexicans Abroad for it’s Spanish initials), a large group of Mexican restaurant owners realized that they all shared the same challenges when operating their restaurants in the USA.
From Chicago to Houston, these restaurant owners have had to deal with the difficulty of obtaining traditional Mexican ingredients locally and priced fairly, while having to find the proper information to deal with legality and tax issues among many other challenges. This conclusion initiated the project of union and passion for Mexican gastronomy and culture known today as MERA.
